Learn about yourself. Unlock your creative gifts. Learn the joy of art and the peace of painting. I had a dream of being able to paint. I was always fascinated by colour. As a child growing up in Sligo the velvet sheen of Ben Bulben, always soothed. The patterns of the sand in Rosses Point and the waves at Strandhill always held a fascination. Then on to Galway with Silver Strand featuring for holidays and the Twelve Pins not to mention the lakes of Connemara.

Kerry was the place where I found the real inspiration and started my journey into the art

world. After numerous courses without any real direction I finally learned the basic

techniques which led to me eventually daring to call myself an artist! Having been chosen as

part of an exhibition, on two occasions, in Siamsa was such a thrill. Having my work

acknowledged meant so much.

Then onwards to France to be enthralled in Provence. After visiting a Van Gogh exhibition,

His Acacia painting held a particular meaning. Next was Cezanne and his fascination with

Mon San Victoire and like Churchill’s fascination with the pond. More about that later.

When I first started painting, I was fixated on producing a photographic image in paint.

Today I have evolved my style and I am emotionally engaged in the emerging painting,

especially when I am painting a memory of a place or animal. This led to my painting memories for people, as I can feel a connection between them and the

budding creation on the canvas. My next development came when I went to a Chagall exhibition in Nice. The colour and movement took my breath away. It felt surreal to be standing there so grateful at being privileged to be there was overwhelming. I was then inspired to create this piece for the exhibition in Tralee entitled “Trumpism”.

My latest discovery is Zao Wou-Ki whose work I saw in May 2021 at the Hotel de Caumont

in Aix. I especially enjoyed his focus on portraying light. This was what emerged.

” Lights”

This was my first painting after completing the first module and learning the basics in a structured approach in 2012. From there I studied the Moore Method and completed a BA in the Humanities with Art at the OU to become an Art Instructor.

Now I absolutely love the interaction with my students alongside my development as an artist.

Classes will be held at the Diseart which houses the famous Harry Clarke Windows in a fun relaxing environment thus enabling you to take home a completed piece of art ready to hang and impress with your newly found confidence and creative skills.
